Satety First
One thing I would like to stress is safety first. Sometimes we think safety is only for our workplace but it is also just as important in your garage. Never rely on a hydraulic jack to support your vehicle if you plan to be under it or to leave it for any length of time. Always support it with good jack stands or suitable wood blocking. You need to be careful with the blocking and do it in such a manner that the truck can't roll and come off the blocks. I use large timber blocking cut from railroad ties and old structural timbers. Fine tuning can be done with smaller dimension lumber such as 2x4 or 1x4. When you are out buying tools don't forget good safety glasses, dust masks, ear plugs and a respirator when that need arises down the road. This is to be an enjoyable endeavor and getting hurt would sure ruin that. Do not get in a hurry. Realize that this project is going to take time and avoiding mistakes now will pay dividends as you proceed. Rework really sucks.
