I have started this blog to mainly track the progress of the rebuilding of a 1948 Ford truck. I purchased the truck on Ebay about a year ago and have been actively working on it for about six months. I decided on a '48 Ford because it is the same style truck my Grandfather had back on the farm when I was growing up. I don't know if he had a 1948, '49 or '50 because they all look basicly the same except for some minor cosmetic differences. I decided I didn't want to rod the truck because I was interested in the nostalga of the original function and appearance. It has a 239 flathead V8 which was not the original engine in the truck because the vin number indicates that it was born with a flathead 6 cylinder. The V8 is what my Grandfather had so I went with that. I picked the truck up last April in Minnesota and winched it onto a trailer and hauled it home and it has been taking up the second stall of my garage for the last nine months. It sat outside before that. Before I could start work on it I had to insulate and heat my garage so that I could comfortably work on it through the very cold winter months here in North Dakota.
One of my hobbies growing up was building model cars and being from a farm background I had plenty of opportunity to be a part time mechanic. So I have approached this project with the mentality that this is nothing more than a large model that needs to be put together. The only problem was that first it has to be taken apart. That is where the adventure begins. This is my first rebuild project so there are a lot of things that I could learn from others and we learn by doing so therefore I have picked up a few things along the way.
